| Just 70 miles south west of London, Portsmouth has 3 ferry companies offering sailings to France: Brittany Ferries, LD Lines and Condor Ferries. P&O Ferries operates its ferry service from Portsmouth to Bilbao.
Because they are much longer crossings that the short sea routes from Dover, ferry crossings from Portsmouth are more expensive. However they cut down your driving time in France particularly if you're only going to Brittany or theVendee.
So the extra you spend on the crossing is matched by the saving in driving time/fuel, overnight stops and meals if needed.
LD Lines Portsmouth to Le Have
The vessel on this route is the ‘Norman Spirit’, which has just been refurbished. She caters for a combination of freight vehicles, cars, caravans, motorhomes, motorcycles and up to 900 passengers.
Outbound sailings depart Portsmouth at 23.00 hrs for an overnight crossing, arriving in Le Havre at 07.30 hrs. Inbound sailings depart Le Havre at 17.00 hrs, arriving in Portsmouth at 21.30 hrs – (local times).
